ADA, Okla. - Oklahoma Christian led 19-11 after one quarter of play, but a 23-7 second quarter helped East Central pull away from the Eagles Tuesday night, 79-56.
In the game's first 10 minutes, OC out-shot ECU, 53.3 percent (8-of-15) to 29.4 percent (5-of-17). Over the last 30 minutes, however, the Tigers got the better of the Eagles, 59.0 percent (23-of-39) to 34.2 percent (13-of-38).
Kenzie Willis led the maroon-and-gray with 10 points, having now scored in double figures in her first five games as an Eagle.
Trinity Dobbs followed behind her, matching her season-high eight points on 2-of-4 shooting and knocking down both of her free-throws.
After play saw a pair of lead changes in the first three minutes, Oklahoma Christian raced out to a 10-point lead before taking an eight-point advantage into the second period.
A
Sofia Lopez jumper at the 8:43 mark and an
Elikya Baseyila bucket at 6:32 on the clock were the only two field-goals OC was able to manage in the quarter's opening eight and a half minutes as the Tigers flipped the script with their own 10-point lead with 89 seconds left in the first half.
A three-pointer from Willis out of the second-half gate cut the East Central lead back down to five, but timely scoring in the third from the Tigers held OC at bay.
Oklahoma Christian (3-2, 0-0 LSC) will play one final home game against Dallas Christian Monday, Dec. 1 at 5:30 p.m. before beginning conference play Thursday, Dec. 4.
