EDMOND, Okla. -
Elijah Bailey's 10-5-5 game helped propel Oklahoma Christian to its first 3-0 start of the NCAA Division II era after an 85-71 victory over Southwestern Christian Tuesday night.
Bailey delivered a season-high six assists while netting 12 points and pulling down five rebounds. The Brooklyn, N.Y., native's 14 assists is the most assists from an Eagle through a season's first three games since OC's time in NAIA.
Jason Clark recorded his first double-double of the season with 13 points, nine of which came at the free-throw line, and 11 rebounds followed by
Miles Gibson, who was one board shy of a double-double with his 15-point, nine-rebound performance.
Andrew Hill recorded nine points, all of which came from behind the three-point line as his trio of treys helped OC shoot 33.3 percent (6-of-18) from beyond the arc. Within the perimeter, Oklahoma Christian outscored Southwestern Christian in the paint, 44-28.
Clark hit two of his nine free-throws 22 seconds into game action, giving the maroon-and-gray a lead it would never relinquish. Save one tie 61 seconds into play, OC forced SCU to play catch-up for the entire 40 minutes of Tuesday's contest.
A five-point lead for much of the first half of the opening 20 minutes ballooned into a 17-point advantage with five minutes to go until the break, helped out by back-to-back triples on consecutive trips down the court from Hill.
With a 13-point lead at halftime, the Eagles never let the score get back within single digits as Oklahoma Christian posted its second double-digit victory of the young season, 85-71.
The Eagles (3-0, 0-0 LSC) will head out west for Nampa, Idaho, for the NNU Thanksgiving Classic, where OC will face Western Oregon Friday, Nov. 28 at 4:30 p.m. MT / 5:30 p.m. CT and then tournament-host Northwest Nazarene Saturday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. MT / 8 p.m. CT before beginning conference play Thursday, Dec. 4.
