EDMOND, Okla. - After trailing at halftime, 29-23, Oklahoma Christian used a 32-point third quarter to propel OC to its second victory over Chadron State in as many days, 74-57, for its first 2-0 start since the 2018-19 campaign.
Taylor Jackson and
Ahniya Melton each came within one rebound of a double-double as Jackson and Melton recorded 13-point, nine-rebound and 12-point, nine-rebound performances, respectively. Melton converted all eight of her free-throw attempts while pulling down five of her nine boards on the offensive end.
For the second straight game, OC held Chadron to a single-digit first-quarter output before a 21-12 second-quarter advantage from CSC sent Oklahoma Christian to the locker room trailing, 29-23.
Out of the break, the Sooner State Eagles went on a 9-1 run before eventually taking the lead at the 7:00 mark of the third frame, 36-35. Another 11-0 run, sparked by an
Allyah Leusogi-Ape three-pointer, gave OC its largest lead of the game up to that point, 47-35.
Thanks to a 17-of-21 free-throw third quarter for the maroon-and-gray, Oklahoma Christian enjoyed a double-digit lead the entirety of the fourth quarter, posting its first back-to-back double-digit point victories since the end of the 2022-23 season.
The Eagles (2-0, 0-0 LSC) will see their first road test of the young season Tuesday, Nov. 18 when they head north on I-35 to Wichita, Kan., to take on Newman at 5:30 p.m.
