OC Rattles Off Three Straight Sets to Beat TAMIU in Four

EDMOND, Okla. - Oklahoma Christian won the afternoon's final three sets by a combined score of 75-35 as the Eagles completed the 2-0 weekend with a four-set victory over Texas A&M International.

The maroon-and-gray hit .317 in the victory less than 24 hours removed from hitting .315 in the sweep against Texas A&M-Kingsville. Friday and Saturday marked the first time in program history OC has hit over .300 as a team in consecutive Lone Star Conference matches.

Katy Geurin (13) and Chloe Jones (12) combined for 25 of the Eagles' 53 kills as the duo hit .500 and .364, respectively. True freshman setter Summer Van Meerveld did a little bit of everything with 14 assists, six digs and three aces. The Eagles tallied nine aces in total for the second most in conference play this season.

Texas A&M International got after OC early, hitting .467 in the opening set while Oklahoma Christian hit just .067 as TAMIU claimed the 25-13 opening set. After being hit in the mouth, OC regrouped with a 9-1 run in the early part of the second frame to turn a 6-4 deficit into a 13-7 advantage and the eventual 25-10 victory.

From that moment early on in the second stanza, the Eagles trailed briefly in one other moment, taking the final two sets, 25-12 and 25-13. Over the final three sets, .the maroon-and-gray hit .398 compared to .058 for the Dustdevils.

Oklahoma Christian (12-7, 4-4 LSC) will next take its penultimate weekend road trip of the regular season when it heads southwest to Alpine, Texas, to take on Sul Ross State Thursday, Oct. 23 at 6 p.m. before meeting Western New Mexico Saturday, Oct. 25 at 12 p.m. MT/1 p.m. CT.
