EDMOND, Okla. - Texas A&M-Kingsville came into the night sporting its best 17-match start in program history while OC was working through a three-match skid. Friday night, Oklahoma Christian flipped the script on the Javelinas, defeating TAMUK in three sets, 31-29, 25-23, 25-18.
Kingsville had not been swept in 2025 before meeting the Eagles and had not been swept on the road since Oct. 12, 2024. As a team, OC hit .315 to help fuel the sweep, which is the highest attack percentage TAMUK has allowed this season.
Along with the high offensive numbers, the Eagles' defense was the story with 11 blocks, led by
Camryn McGough with five block assists while also logging five kills and zero errors on just nine total attacks for a .556 attack percentage.
Chloe Jones recorded her 25th career double-double and her fourth in the last five matches with a match-high 12 kills and 12 digs. While Jones and
Katy Geurin with her 10 kills garnered much of the attention, true freshman
Payton Cash spelled Jones and company brilliantly with seven kills while hitting .500.
Kingsville held the early 8-4 lead before a 12-3 run handed OC the 16-11 lead. Moments later, the maroon-and-gray's 18-13 lead evaporated before TAMUK took a turn with a 6-0 run to retake the lead, 19-18. The back-and-forth opening set required some extra run before Oklahoma Christian prevailed, 31-29.
An equally competitive second set showed the Javelinas within two points of tying up the match at one set a piece, 23-21, before head coach
Asa Freeman called a timeout to stop the bleeding of a TAMUK 4-0 run. The timeout proved worthwhile as OC strung together the frame's final four points, with McGough and Cash tag-teaming the final block for the 25-23 second-set victory.
With all the momentum on its side after taking the tightly contested first two frames, OC slowly chipped away in the third for the most lopsided victory of the night. Leading by one, 16-15, the maroon-and-gray had one final run in them, scoring nine of the match's final 12 points for the statement victory.
Oklahoma Christian (11-7, 3-4 LSC) will return to the Payne Athletics Center Saturday, Oct. 18 at 2 p.m. to face Texas A&M International.
