EDMOND, Okla. - Oklahoma Christian University Lady Eagles (5-6, LSC 2-5), still looking for their first win of the year, played host to the 2023-24 National Runners Up and No. 2 Texas Woman's Pioneers (13-1, LSC 6-1) in a Sunday afternoon battle in the Nest.
First Quarter - TWU 14 - OC 8
With snow falling outside at the tip, both teams needed time to warm up and find their rhythms. The Pioneers finally broke through the ice, scoring the first bucket three and a half minutes into the game.
The Lady Eagles struggled with their offensive game, ending up 11 points short at the media timeout.
The senior duo, Jordan Francisco and Nakia Cullom, took over in the last part of the opening quarter. They combined for seven points and four rebounds and led the Lady Eagles on a 6-0 run to pull within five points.
Second Quarter - TWU 30 - OC 16
Francisco continued her excellent play in the paint, this time in partnership with Ewa Kielar. The two scored eight points in the paint and hustled to hold the reigning LSC Player of the Year to just seven points in the half.
The Pioneer would enter the locker room at the half with a 14-point lead.
Third Quarter - TWU 47 - OC 35
The Lady Eagles would find a spark from long range, as Kate Bradley hit back-back three-pointers to pull within 10 of the No. 2 Pioneers.
Francisco continued to step up at the right time, nailing at three at the top of the key to pull within single digits.
Fourth Quarter - TWU 65 - OC 53
The Lady Eagles never backed down from the challenges thrown at them by TWU. In the second half, the Lady Eagles would out-score the No. 2 Pioneers 37-35 but could not overcome the 14-point deficit from the half.
