Oklahoma City, Okla. - Oklahoma Christian (7-32, 7-30) and Eastern New Mexico (16-23, 14-23) faced off at Dobson Field in game one of a four-game series Friday evening.
Game 1
The wind of an Oklahoma spring continued to be a factor at Dobson Field as the winds would help anything that was hit in the air.
The Greyhounds would get things started in the first with a two-run home run.
The Eagles quickly answered back in the bottom half of the inning with back-to-back home runs from Hunter Jones and Ethan Box.
ENMU would put up three more runs in the second inning to reclaim the lead from OC.
In the Eagles' second at-bat, Daniel Serrato would draw a walk to get on base as Jaden Boyce would crush a ball over the left field wall to bring the Eagles within one.
Naut Kragt came in to pitch for the Eagles in the third inning and shut down the Greyhounds to put the first zero on the scoreboard.
In the bottom of the fourth the Eagles would grab the lead from the Greyhounds. This started with Reed Carroll ripping the ball just over the shortstop's head to get on base. Johnny Behm stepped up to blast a line drive two-run home run barely over the left field wall to take the lead 5-6 at the end of the fourth inning.
Hank Heiselbetz would play his lead-off spot well in the bottom of the fifth with a double to center field, setting up Hunter Jones to drive in his second RBI of the night with a single to center field. Ethan Box would clear the bases with another deep shot to left field to extend the Eagles' lead to four runs.
The Eagles continued to add to their lead in the bottom of the sixth. Behm got things started for the Eagles by getting on base with a lead-off walk, Serrato would get the first hit of the night to put runners on first and second. Boyce laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to put both runners in scoring position. This set up Heiselbetz for a two-run RBI single up the middle of the field. Heiselbetz would advance to third base off a hard-hit single from Sloan Laird. Hunter Jones would put one more run on the scoreboard for the Eagles with a sacrifice fly ball to make the score 5-12 going into the seventh inning.
The Greyhounds would make it a game and bring it to within one going into the bottom of the seventh inning.
ENMU continued to grow their momentum in the top of the eighth inning to take the lead back with a score of 15-12.
The Greyhounds would hold off the Eagles' late attempt to come back to take game one.
