Irvine, Cali. - Softball wrapped the season-opening weekend with a matchup against the Hawaii Pacific Sharks (HPU).

The Eagles threatened in the top of the first after
Whitney Walde singled and
Marissa Powell walked to put Walde in scoring position, but the Sharks were able to get out of the jam.

Hawaii Pacific responded by taking an early lead on a two-RBI single in the bottom of the first inning to carry a 2-0 lead into the second inning.

Both pitchers settled in and shut the opposing offenses down, but in the bottom of the fifth, HPU brought another runner across on an RBI single to extend the lead to 3-0.

Kylie Janzen opened the top of the 7th with a double to right center, and
Presley Main, in a pinch-hit appearance, singled to bring Janzen to third base.
Karsyn Iltis picked up a pinch-hit RBI single, scoring Janzen and putting Main in scoring positioning.

After the Eagles threatened with no outs, the Sharks were able to hang on to win to close out the CUI Festival.
