Irvine, Cal- The Eagles played two games in California despite the weather trying to keep the games from happening.
Game 1- OC vs. Concordia University Irvine
The Eagles came out looking to score early, with Kiley Brewster getting on base with a walk to lead things off for the Eagles. With a single by Aaliyah Brown and a hit-by-pitch for Karissa Fiegener, the Eagles set up a Kristen Whitehouse single that drove in two runs.Â
With the Eagles' quick scoring, the Golden Eagles were forced to make an early pitching change, bringing in the Preseason CCAA Conference Pitcher of the Year, Katlin Entrup, who then retired the side.
The Golden Eagles would get one back to the bottom of the first before the Eagles were about to shut them down.Â
Tristyn Hamilton got the Eagles started again in the second with a leadoff single, followed by stealing second base to put herself in scoring position. Aaliyah Brown came up for her second at-bat and knocked a hard-hit ball into center to bring Hamilton in for an RBI.Â
The Golden Eagles were able to tie the game at three in the bottom of the sixth.Â
After letting the bases get loaded, Grace Anderson was able to get out of the jam and send the game into extra innings.
Kiley Janzen sent a hard grounder right back to the pitcher to get the lead-off single. This was followed by a high line drive hit just over the third baseman's head for a double and have two Eagles in scoring position. Tristyn Hamilton came up clutch with a sacrifice fly ball to center, scoring Janzen from third on the tag up.Â
Anderson, after giving up a leadoff walk, was able to shut down the Golden Eagles and struck out the final batter to claim the Eagles' first win of the season.Â
Game 2 - OC vs. California State Monterey BayÂ
The Eagles found themselves down in the top of the second.Â
Finally, in the bottom half of the fourth, Whitney Walde got the Eagles started with a single to lead off the inning. A few batters later, Kristen Whitehouse singled up the middle to drive in Walde to tie the game.Â
The Otters would eventually score two more to take the lead back, and the Eagles were not able to overcome.Â
