San Antonio, Texas - Oklahoma Christian (3-11, 3-9) finished up their in-conference, four-games series with St. Mary's (8-9, 7-9) on Sunday afternoon.
Game 4
What Went Down
To start off the game, Antonio Sabala continued his trend of getting on base at a high rate in this series with a leadoff walk for the Eagles. While OC struggled to get the bats going in the first, Hunter Jones was able to drive in Sabala on a fly-out to put the Eagles on the board, 1-0.
The Rattlers started off the game with an offensive explosion, putting up 10 runs in just the first two innings. The Eagles did everything they could to shore up the StMU offense.
OC then entered the third inning down 10-1. Thanks to some pitching struggles, Alejandro Sanchez, Antonio Sabala, and Sloan Laird got on base early with a hit-by-pitch and back-to-back walks. Once again, Hunter Jones picked up an RBI as he drove in Sanchez on a groundout to second. Ethan Box would then drive in the Eagles third run on a double to center field, while also putting Laird in scoring position. Laird scored the Eagles fourth and final run of the inning thanks to a Justin Spencer RBI flyout.
Entering the top of the fifth, the Eagles trailed St. Mary's 10-4.
OC continued to chip away at the StMU lead. Sloan Laird and Hunter Jones both got on base with back-to-back walks. Ethan Box followed them up with an RBI single to center field, driving in Laird. Jadan Boyce would then reach on the fielder's choice RBI, driving in Hunter Jones to trim the lead to 4.
The Rattlers continued their dominance behind the plate putting together a four-run inning to close out the fifth.
The Eagles were able to tack on a run in the top of the sixth, after Antonio Sabala drew another walk and worked his way around the bases, eventually scoring off of a wild pitch.
Heading into the seventh inning, the Eagles responded to the Rattlers four-run inning with four runs of their own. The offensive display was spearheaded by leadoff, back-to-back homers from Justin Spencer and Jadan Boyce and then followed up with a two-run home run by Alejandro Sanchez. The Eagles trailed 14-11.
Despite OC's strong performances behind the plate, they were unable to shut down the St. Mary's offense, who put up four more runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Johnny Behm had a solo home run in the top of the ninth, but it was too little, too late as the Eagles dropped the series finale to the Rattlers, 18-12.
