Eagles 21-Point Comeback Falls Just Short in Home Finale

Oklahoma City, Okla. - Oklahoma Christian (12-13, LSC 9-10) hosted St. Edward's (18-9, LSC 11-7) in the Nest on Saturday for the final home game of the season. 

First Half 

The Hilltoppers got off to a hot shooting start as they hit four three-pointers before the first media timeout. 

Ten minutes into the game St. Edward's worked up a lead over OC. 

The Eagles began to find their game and work their way back into the game with twelve points coming from the OC bench. 

The Eagles held the Hilltoppers bench scoreless in the first half but would need to find their hot start in the second half. 

Second Half 

The Eagles did just what they needed, coming out of the half with a new life and began to claw their way back into the game. 

The Eagles' defense worked hard to cause chaos for the Hilltoppers, forcing them to turn the ball over seventeen times in the game. 

With just over two minutes to play in the game, the Eagles finally grabbed the lead for the first time in the game, with a contested layup from Tyrus Baynham. A minute later the lead was extended by a deep three from Karlyn Kenner

The Eagles had several chances to extend the lead but were unable to at the free throw line. The Hilltoppers had the ball with sixteen seconds left and hit their first three-pointer of the half to grab a one-point lead and win the game. 

Notes

  • Tyrus Baynham finished the game with a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double.

  • Hunter Staten was the other Eagles to finish in double figures with 15 points and 3 rebounds.

  • Karlyn Kenner scored 9 points, including the 3-pointer that gave the Eagles their first lead of the ball game. 

  • Moun'Tae Edmundson and Quinton Johnson combined for 9 points and 8 rebounds.

  • The Eagles had two come off the bench and give production, as Nickolas Traylor finished with 8 points and 6 rebounds, and Javon Grant recorded 6 points, 3 rebounds, and 5 assists.

The Eagles will play two games in the state of New Mexico, first taking on Eastern New Mexico on Thursday, February 22nd, and then playing Western New Mexico on Saturday, February 24th.
