Eagles Fall Short of Dustdevils, Look to Regain Momentum in Final Home Games

Laredo, Texas- Oklahoma Christian (11-12, LSC 8-9) hit the road to take on Texas A&M International (13-10, LSC 9-8) in what was a hard-fought loss.

First Half

The first two minutes, in which the Eagles went 0-4 from the field and gave up three offensive boards, were indicative of the rest of the first half for OC. 

After going down 15-2 to start the game, the Eagles were finally able to get some offense going thanks to 9 straight points from OC's Nickolas Traylor, putting them down 30-22 with 3 minutes left in the half.  

Poor shooting played a big part in OC's struggles. They trailed 35-26 at the half on 32.3% shooting from the field and 14.3% from the 3. TAMIU shot 48% from the field and 33.3% from 3.

Second Half 

Both teams came out of the half with some hot shooting. After trading buckets in the first few minutes, the Eagles surrendered the biggest deficit of the game, putting them down 19 at the 16-minute mark. The Dustdevils Alexandre played a big part in TAMIU's run, with a quick 8 points out of the half.

After putting together some stops on defense, the Eagles were able to claw back into the game, putting themselves down 2 with just 48 seconds left in the game. Both teams battled back and forth, but the Dustdevils were able to squeak out a win after making 6 of their 8 free throws to close out the game. TAMIU won 64-60.

In the second half, OC shot 46.2% from the field, and TAMIU shot 38.5% from the field.

  • Nickolas Traylor came off the bench and led all scoring with 20 points. He also had 3 rebounds and 2 assists.

  • Moun'Tae Edmundson finished with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. 

  • Quinton Johnson records 11 points and 3 rebounds.

  • Hunter Staten and Karlyn Kenner combined for 6 points and 7 rebounds. 

  • Javon Grant came off the bench and scored 6 points, 3 rebounds, and 7 assists.

The Eagles return to the nest for their final two home games of the season. They will take on St. Mary's University on Thursday, February 15th at 7:30.
