Lady Eagles Take Down Aggies in the Nest 59-53, the First in Coach Brown Era

EDMOND, Okla. - The Lady Eagles (5-4, LSC 2-3) end the 2024 calendar year with a 59-53 divisional win over in-state conference opponent Cameron University (2-7, LSC 0-5), giving Coach Brown his first win over Cameron in his tenure at Oklahoma Christian.

First Quarter

Kate Bradley started the game on a high note with a deep corner three, which caused the Aggies to take an early timeout just forty seconds into the game. This was the spark the Lady Eagles needed, going on a ten-to-nothing run in the first four minutes of play.

The Lady Eagles gave ten minutes of lockdown defense to hold the Aggies to just two points, shooting only 8% from the field.

Oklahoma Christian dominated the boards, winning the battle 14-1 in the first quarter.

Second Quarter

The Lady Eagles held their game plan and continued to pressure the Aggies, making it hard for Cameron to score.

Nakia Cullom found her rhythm on the offensive side of the ball, driving in several times and hitting a pull-up jumper in the defender's face. Cullom finished the quarter with six points, helping the Lady Eagles maintain a 15-point lead over the Aggies into halftime, and led all scoring with eight points in the half.

The Lady Eagles played a complete half of basketball, with seven players scoring, nine assists, and a 21-6 rebounding victory.

Third Quarter

Both teams came out of the locker room looking to score more than the first. The Lady Eagles maintained a double-digit lead over the Aggies late into the third quarter, but the Aggies were not going away without a fight, forcing coach Brown to call a timeout late in the third quarter after shaving the lead down to just eight points.

Jordan Francisco put in a tremendous offensive effort, shooting 3-4 from the field and scoring seven points in the quarter. She helped the Lady Eagles hold the lead going into the final quarter.

Cullom capped off the quarter with a buzzer-beating rebound and put back to extend the lead to 13 points, despite the Aggies outsourcing the Lady Eagles in the quarter 17-15.

Fourth Quarter

The Lady Eagles needed clutch scoring, so Taylor Jackson found her way into the lane multiple times, scoring six points in the first four minutes of the quarter and making several quality stops on the defensive end.

Cameron did not back down, pulling to within a possession with just three minutes left to play.

Despite the Aggie outsourcing the Lady Eagles 40-31 in the second half, the lead built and clutch free throw at the end of the game falling for the Lady Eagles; the team will go into the Christmas break on a high note with a 59-53 divisional win over Cameron.
