Lady Eagles Take Down the Jets, 72-65

EDMOND, Okla. - Oklahoma Christian (2-1, 0-0 LSC) played host to old Heartland Conference foes, Newman University (3-3, 0-0 MIAA) in the Nest Friday evening to get their second win of the season.

First Quarter

The Lady Eagles and the Jets from the tip set off in a back-and-forth battle, both teams struggle to find a rhythm.

Elikya Baseyila stepped up in the first quarter, coming off the bench to score five points and grab three rebounds in a quick three-minute scoring run for the Lady Eagles. At the height of OC's scoring run, Kate Bradley sent her defender to the ground with a step back, capped off with a perfect three-point nothing-but-net finish.

Newman finished the first quarter with a one-possession lead, with the score 16-14.

Second Quarter

Oklahoma Christian found success in the second ten minutes of play in the paint, with Baseyila and Jordan Francisco finding ways to the charity strip, combining for a steller 7-8 in the quarter.

Taylor Jackson also contributed four points and three rebounds, as the Lady Eagles outscored the Jets in the second quarter 19-16.

With this advantage in the lane, the Lady Eagles went into the locker room with a one-point advantage over the Jets of Newman.

Third Quarter

The first 20 minutes of the game saw few fouls called and lots of physical match-ups. This shifted in the second part of the game, with game flow hard to come by and the foul count stacking higher and higher for both teams. The two teams combined for 17 fouls in the third quarter.

Bradley led the way for the Lady Eagles in the third, going perfect from the field and scoring seven points. Through Bradley's leadership, the Lady Eagles could climb out of a small deficit and bring it to a one-possession game.

Fourth Quarter

In crunch time, with both teams facing foul trouble, the Lady Eagles grabbed the lead with a trip to the line from Ciera Harris a minute into the final quarter.

Oklahoma Christian would never lose the lead in the final seven minutes.

The Lady Eagles would finish off the Jets by hitting free throws, closing out the game going 8-10 and shutting Newman down, holding them to just nine points in the quarter.

The Lady Eagles won their second home game in a row, 72-65, over the Newmen Jets.
