First-Half Scorcher Carries Eagles to Win Over ECU, 83-76

EDMOND, Okla. - On legendary head coach Dan Hays' birthday, Oklahoma Christian shot a single-half season-high 70 percent (17-of-24) from the field in the first 20 minutes of Friday's in-state contest, including 7-of-10 from three-point range, to defeat East Central, 83-76.

One game after setting his collegiate career-high, Keyondre Young set a new high yet again, securing 28 points on 8-of-19 shooting, 5-of-9 from deep, converting on all seven of his free-throws. Young, after going a perfect 5-for-5 in OC's last game from long range, made his first five triples Friday night to see 10 consecutive treys go through the net.

Javon Grant and Marco Foster both added 15 points as Grant missed just three shots on the evening, hitting 6-of-9 from the floor while cashing in on his lone three-point basket. The senior guard also dished out a season-high six assists while Foster had four.

Neither team saw a ton of offense through the opening four minutes as play stood in favor of East Central the first media timeout, 6-5. Young changed that narrative quickly, knocking down three consecutive triples in a span of 64 seconds to hand OC a 14-8 advantage.

From there Young and Grant combined to score 14 of the Eagles' next 17 points as the home team opened its largest lead of the opening half at the 7:53 mark, 31-19. The Tigers closed the gap to give before Oklahoma Christian closed the half on a 9-0 run for a 46-32 halftime lead.

The shots continued to fall for the Eagles through the first five minutes of second-half action with OC seeing its largest lead of the game, 56-37, less than five minutes into the second stanza. From there, ECU began to chip away, cutting the deficit down to eight before a tough lay-up from Foster snapped an 8-0 Tiger run.

East Central continued to fight, however, as their second run of the latter 20 minutes came with just under two minutes remaining in regulation as OC's once-19 point lead was trimmed down to three, 75-72. The Eagles hit their final five free-throws, however, to maintain its lead to the final buzzer, 83-76.

Oklahoma Christian (3-1, 0-0 LSC) will now spend almost the next three weeks on the road, beginning with Harding in Searcy, Ark., Saturday, Nov. 30 at 3 p.m. The Bisons will serve as the final non-conference game of the season before beginning LSC action Thursday, Dec. 5 in Portales, N.M., against Eastern New Mexico.
