EDMOND, Okla. - For the first time since Apr. 3, 2021, the Oklahoma Christian women's soccer program will play postseason soccer. The seventh-seeded Oklahoma Christian Eagles will face United Soccer Coaches No. 9 and second-seeded DBU Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. in quarterfinal action of the 2024 Lone Star Conference Tournament. Â
EAGLE OUTLOOK (10-4-4, 6-4-3 LSC)
Head coach
Evan Dresel has either matched or increased OC's win total each year he has been at the helm of the program, culminating in the 2024 campaign. Coach Dresel has led the Eagles women's soccer program to its first 10-win season of the NCAA Division II era, as well as its most Lone Star Conference wins ever (6).
Joining the "firsts" this season was OC's first ever victory against both West Texas A&M and Lubbock Christian. Additionally, Oklahoma Christian played this DBU team earlier this season on the road, where the Eagles managed three goals against the Patriots - the most goals OC has scored against them since 1997 - in what wound up finishing as a 3-3 tie. DBU has allowed four goals at home this season, three of which came against Oklahoma Christian.
In order for OC to advance to the semifinals held at top-seed Angelo State's campus, coach Dresel will lean on forward
Kyla Lovelace, who is pacing the Lone Star Conference with 15 goals. The senior from Mustang, Okla. is currently tied for seventh in NCAA Division II in total goals, despite being outside the top 150 in shots per game, resulting in a .689 shot accuracy, which is sixth in DII.
As a team, Oklahoma Christian is tied for third in the conference with 2.11 goal per game while coach Dresel's calculated offense is only eighth in the league with 6.06 shots-on-goal per game. Meanwhile, DBU leads the conference in both categories, while the Patriots are tied for eighth in DII with 51 goals this season.Â
SCOUTING NO. 9 DBU (13-1-3, 10-1-2 LSC)
DBU has exhibited nothing shy of complete dominance when playing at home this season. Since drawing with OC, 3-3, DBU has outscored visiting teams, 19-1. The back-to-back LSC Tournament Champion Patriots have reached their conference tournament championship match every year since 2011.
DBU has not lost to Oklahoma Christian since 2009 and had never even tied with OC during that time until the 2024 meeting. The Patriots come into Tuesday's contest winners of eight of their last nine matches, including a current four-match winning streak. DBU has not lost a conference tournament match since the 2021 LSC championship.
