AMARILLO, Texas - No. 4 Oklahoma Christian men's golf closes the first two rounds of the Ryan Palmer Invitational with a 12-stroke lead on the 17-team field with a 36-hole 21-under 539 day.
(RV) Colorado Mines sits behind OC at 9-under 551, followed by (RV) Colorado Mesa at 7-under 553, No. 20 West Texas A&M's 'B' team and Fort Lewis at 5-under 555 to fill out the top five.
The Eagles established their 12-stroke advantage thanks to a combined 8-under on Par 4s as Mines was the next closest team at 2-under. Oklahoma Christian was also the only team through 36 holes to have played the Par 3 holes under par.
Leading the first-place Eagles is
Leandro Mihaich, who is in second out of the 90-player field with a two-round score of 8-under 132 adn three shots back of the clubhouse leader. Mihaich opened the day with a 5-under 65 after carding seven birdies.
Teammate
Exequiel Rodriguez heads into the last day two shots back of Mihaich at 6-under 134 and tied for sixth. Rodriguez moved into the Top-10 after a second-round 4-under 66.
Oskari Nikku matched Rodriguez's 4-under 66 second round to lay claim to a spot at sixth.
True freshman
Juan Repetto was the final counting score on opening day for Oklahoma Christian as he left the day the same way he entered it with an even-par 140 scorecard for a spot at 26th. Repetto, after shooting a 3-over 73 in the first round, came back with a 3-under 67 on the second 18, including playing his final 10 holes 5-under par.
Blas Ayesa rounded out the Oklahoma Christian five-bag with a 3-over 143 for 46th on the player leaderboard.
Vertti Perala and
Alex Rigby finished 22nd and 78th with 1-under 139 and 9-over 149 days, respectively, to represent the OC individuals.
No. 4 Oklahoma Christian will return to Amarillo Country Club for the third and final round Tuesday morning, beginning with Rigby at 9 a.m.
