Volleyball's Efficient Night Yields Sweep Against SNU

EDMOND, Okla - Oklahoma Christian volleyball recorded its second straight win after taking a break from conference action, defeating Southern Nazarene in straight sets, 25-17, 25-18, 25-22.

Annie Davis posted a season-high 10 kills while hitting .185. Chloe Jones continued her highly efficient offense with a .406 attack percentage on 14 kills, boasting a 4.67 kills-per-set average, followed by Lauren Cary with the .444 average as the second Eagle to hit north of .400 on the night.

As a team, OC hit .270, serving as Oklahoma Christian's third consecutive match to hit above .200. For the season, the Eagles are hitting .207, which is currently 11th in the Lone Star Conference.

The Sooner State programs remained in lock step through the early going before, at 9-9, a quick 4-0 burst yielded an eventual OC 20-13 advantage. Both teams traded points the rest of the way until Oklahoma Christian took the opening stanza, 25-17.

The second set started similar to the first, with the Eagles even trailing by one point a third of the way through the frame. Following suit from the first set, a 10-4 run from the home team established a 16-11 lead before turning into a 25-18 second-set victory.

Head coach Asa Freeman's group did not let SNU hang around in the third set, unlike the first two, as OC secured six of the first eight points. The Crimson Storm fought back and were able to tie the match at 18-18, but a kill from Cary plus back-to-back winners from Davis opened the three-point lead OC needed to slam the door closed.

After the 25-22 third-set win, Oklahoma Christian left the Payne Athletic Center with an 11-7 overall record - OC's best 18-match start since 2022. The Eagles will now welcome conference-foe Texas A&M-Kingsville Friday, Oct. 18 to Edmond, Okla.
