BETHANY, Okla. - Oklahoma Christian women's soccer (1-0-1) traveled to Bethany for its first road match in a matchup with Southern Nazarene (2-0-1) at the Wanda Rhodes Soccer Complex.
The Eagles came out and set a strong tone for the second match in a row, imposing their will and creating opportunities for goals with four corner kicks in the first half. But the best chance of the first half came similarly to the season-opener.
Brooklyn Fink lined up a free kick from just inside midfield, dropping right on the six-yard box where the SNU keeper dropped the ball, and
Raquel Fanelli found the back of the net.
As the Crimson Storm got set to kick off, the center referee decided to discuss the play with the side official and deemed that OC fouled the keeper in the process of the goal, waiving off the goal.
The score remained tied at 0-0 going into the halftime break as OC looked to adjust from their usual style of play due to the dimensions of the field and started to find better chances in front of the net.
SNU broke through first, earning a penalty kick on a foul in the box, and took the lead on that chance.
Kyla Lovelace and OC responded quickly, a minute and a half later breaking through the back line, battling a defender, and ripping the equalizer past the keeper in the 56th minute for her first
goal of the season.
Lovelace created another similar opportunity by pushing a ball just past the left post, and
Rani Mueller later had a great look that took an all-out diving save from the keeper to save the would-be game-winning goal.
The draw was another impressive result for the Eagles, holding the Crimson Storm's high-powered offense to the lone goal on the PK, with
Ashlee Jackson making four saves, including a great leaping save at the end of the first half.
