LUBBOCK, Texas - Oklahoma Christian (6-4) took on one of the top-performing Lone Star Conference teams throughout the non-conference slate in Texas-Permian Basin (9-1) on Friday afternoon.
Â
First set (OC 1, UTPB 0)
Annie Davis and
Kathryn Christie got the Eagles off to a strong start with kills and a Davis ace to give OC a 6-2 advantage. Kills from
Katy Geurin,
Megan Rek, and
Lauren McClure stretched the lead to 11-4, and later, an attack error gave OC its largest lead of the set at 17-7. But the Falcons stormed back to tie the set at 23-23 until back-to-back UTPB errors gave OC the first set.
Â
Second set (OC 2, UTPB 0)
Oklahoma Christian dominated set two, taking a 6-0 lead in a set of several runs that culminated in OC taking the set 25-10. Davis had five of her school-record twenty-two kills in the set to lead the Eagles' attack.
Â
Third set (OC 2, UTPB 1)
OC held UTPB at bay for the first half of set three, taking a 14-9 lead about midway through before Texas-Permian Basin went on a run and won the set 25-23.
Â
Fourth set (OC 2, UTPB 2)
The fourth set was a role reversal of set two, with the Falcons taking the set 25-10 and tying the match to force a fifth set.
Â
Fifth set (OC 2, UTPB 3)
The first ten points of the sets went back and forth between the teams until UTPB went on a run to take a 9-5 advantage. The Eagles didn't back down when the Falcons had the momentum and rattled off ten points to take a 15-14 match-point lead. UTPB tied it at 15, then the Eagles took it to match-point again at 16-15 on a Davis kill. The Falcons took the next two points, but a
