West Texas wind leads to 36 runs in Odessa

Odessa, Texas - For the first four innings, UTPB held onto a 1-0 lead, but four innings of five runs or more led to several lead changes over the final four innings.

The Falcons scored on an RBI single after a leadoff double put a running in scoring position. Andrew Alonzo got the start, settled in, and struck out three Permian Basin batters after the early UTPB run.

Marcus Johnson put the Eagles on the board with a leadoff solo home run, his third of the season, and 29th RBI. Hunter Jones followed that with a single, and Ethan Box cleared the bases with a two-run home run, Box's 6th, and 20th.

Jaren Hill worked a walk to keep the inning going, and Jayvien Joesph hit OC's second two-run home run of the inning, to give Oklahoma Christian a 5-1 lead.

UTPB plated nine runs on seven hits in the bottom of the fifth, taking a 10-5 lead into the sixth inning.

A Hunter Jones grand slam highlighted an eight-run sixth inning for OC, as the Eagles regained a 13-10 lead. Chance Westervelt worked a leadoff walk, and Hill took advantage of the runner on, getting an RBI on a triple. Two hit by pitches and a walk loaded the bases, leading to Jones' grand slam, giving the Oklahoma Christian a 12-10 lead. Ethan Box capped the eight-run inning after reaching base on a double, and scored on a Westervelt sacrifice fly.

Permian Basic tied the game in the bottom of the inning with a three-run home run and took the lead in the seventh with another three-run inning. UTPB went on to win in the 8th inning with a seven-run inning.
