Eagles win series with a doubleheader split on Saturday afternoon

Oklahoma City, Okla. - Payton Foster and Karysn Iltis threw a combined two-hit shutout, and five Eagles picked up RBIs resulting in six runs to lead the Eagles to a doubleheader split over Midwestern State.

Game 1: OC 6, MSU 0

Payton Foster set the side down in order to get things started in the top of the first, and her offense set her up for the win in the bottom of the inning.

With two outs, the Eagles' offense put together a string of hits to take a 2-0 lead. Kristen Whitehouse started the two-out rally with a single and came home to score on an Aaliyah Brown RBI double. Whitney Walde followed that by scoring Brown with an RBI single to give OC the lead.

Foster faced just three over the minimum during her five innings in the circle, only allowing two hits and picking up a strikeout.

In the fifth inning, the OC offense ignited, putting up four runs to blow open the game. Brooklin Bain opened the inning with a walk and stole second and third to open the inning. Hannah Pate followed that with a single and stole second to put runners on second and third with no outs.

With runners in scoring position, Kristen Whitehouse picked up an RBI on a sacrifice fly for her 22nd RBI of the season. Boo Robinson followed that by getting her 18th RBI on a fielder's choice, and Kylie Janzen brought two runs home on a two-RBI pinch-hit double.

Karysn Iltis came in with the 6-0 lead and continued the pitching dominance in game one. Iltis didn't allow a hit and struck out two Mustangs. Foster got the win, her sixth of the season.

Game 2: MSU 6, OC 4

Grace Anderson started in the circle in game two and struck out a Mustang while sitting the side down in order.

Brooklin Bain opened the offensive portion with a walk, stole second, and advanced to third on an error. Hannah Pate brought her home with a sacrifice fly to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

Whitehouse and Brown reached on back-to-back singles, and Whitney Walde brought Whitehouse home to score on an RBI groundout. Anderson, who was also batting, helped herself with an RBI single, scoring Brown to take a 3-0 lead.

Bain led off the bottom of the second and crushed a ball for her second home run of the season and the series, giving OC a 4-0 lead.

Anderson was cruising, before a short rally from the Mustangs cut the lead in half. But Grace locked back in and retired the next six batters.

With the two pitchers dealing, the Eagles found a way to come up with three hits in the bottom of the sixth with a triple from Bain and singles from Pate and Whitehouse. But the Mustangs found a way out of the inning, and OC continued to hold its 4-2 lead.

In the top of the 7th, the Mustangs rallied starting with a leadoff single, and a sacrifice bunt to move the runner to second. A walk followed by an RBI single cut the OC lead to 4-3, and Payton Foster entered to relieve Anderson.

Midwestern State had runners on first and third with one out, but the pinch runner at first left base early, bring them to their final out. And with two outs, an RBI single, and a two-run home run gave MSU a 6-4 lead.

The Eagles got runners on 1st and 3rd with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but the Mustangs held on to win.
