Eagles power through power outage to run-rule Mustangs

Oklahoma City, Okla. - The Eagles and the Mustangs of Midwestern State met on Tom Heath Field under quite the circumstances due to the weather.

The wind was gusting 50+ mph, causing power outages on campus and a dusty sky, and a widespread grass fire several miles south of campus filled the skyline with smoke.

With all that going on, there was still a game to play, and Oklahoma Christian didn't wait long to get on the board. In the bottom of the second inning, OC plated five runs on four hits, with Kylie Janzen starting things with an RBI double. Tristyn Hamilton followed that with an RBI single, and Brooklin Bain highlighted the inning with a three-run home run.

Midwestern State picked up their only two runs of the game on a two-RBI double in the top of the fourth, but Aaliyah Brown wiped that out with a two-RBI single in the bottom of the inning. The RBIs were Brown's team-leading 31st and 32nd of the season.

Marissa Powell kept the scoring going in a pinch-hit at-bat in the bottom of the fifth, scoring Janzen on an RBI single. And in the bottom of the sixth, the Eagles scored two runs to win via run rule. Whitney Walde brought the first run across with an RBI triple, scoring Kiley Janzen, who pinch ran, and Boo Robinson brought home Walde for the winning run on an RBI single.

Oklahoma Christian scored their ten runs on eleven hits, led by Brooklin Bain, who went 3/4 with three RBIs and a run.

Jill Dickson picked her 14th win of the season, striking out four mustangs over four innings and only giving up two runs. Grace Anderson pitched the final two innings, holding Midwestern State scoreless while picking up two strikeouts.
