Laredo, Texas - Oklahoma Christian hit the road for a weekend series at Texas A&M International, which came into the series on a six-game winning streak.
Â
Game 1: TAMIU 4, OC 2
Â
Marcus Johnson continued his great season at the plate with an RBI groundout scoring
Connor Jackson, who reached on a single.
Preston King also reached base on a single to move Jackson to second, and
Blake Empkey laid down a sacrifice to put both runners in scoring position.Â
Â
Naut Kragt got the start and sat the side down in order with two strikeouts in the bottom of the first, giving OC a 1-0 lead after one inning.
Â
Chance Westervelt led off the top of the second with a double, and
Grant Lake reached base with a double to right field, but three consecutive outs left the runners stranded. And in the bottom of the second, a single, a walk, and a fielder's choice left runners at 1st and 3rd, and a sacrifice bunt RBI tied the game.
Â
Back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the third gave TAMIU a 2-1 lead, and a groundout RBI later in the inning extended the lead to 3-1.
Â
The two teams went down quietly in the 4th before the Dustdevils scored their 4th run in the 5th on an RBI groundout.
Â
The Eagles looked to have something cooking in the 6th after Westervelt worked a leadoff walk, and an RBI double from Lake cut the lead to 4-2. But Texas A&M International held on to win 4-2 in the seven-inning game.
Â
Game 2: OC 10, TAMIU 6
Â
The Eagles' bats came alive in game two, with a pair of three-run innings and a pair of two-run innings.
Â
A&M International got on the board first in the bottom of the first on a bases-loaded balk.
Â
DiFiore singled and stole second to lead off the top of the second.
Chance Westervelt walked, and
Hunter Jones singled to load the bases, and
Grant Lake took advantage of that with a two-RBI single.
Jaren Hill capped the three-run inning with another sacrifice RBI giving OC a 3-1 lead.
Â
Â
TAMIU scored four runs in the bottom of the second on an RBI double, an RBI single, a wild pitch, and an RBI walk, taking a 5-3 lead.
Â
Hank Heiselbetz leadoff the top of the third with a single, and
Marcus Johnson brought him home with an RBI double. Westervelt followed that up with a two-run home run, giving Oklahoma Christian a 6-5 lead.
Â
In the bottom of the 4th, the Dustdevils tied the game after loading the bases and scoring on another balk.
Â
The fifth inning saw no scoring, with
Brendon Bavester entering the game and forcing two flyouts and a pop up. And in the top of the sixth
Jaren Hill got Bavester in line for the win with a two-run home run, putting the Eagles back on top, 8-6.
Â
Lake walked with two outs in the eighth and back-to-back RBI doubles from Hill and King gave OC a 10-6 lead.
Â
Oklahoma Christian worked out of a jam in the bottom of the eighth, and
Chris Huerta faced the minimum in the 9th, to give OC a doubleheader split. With the win, Bavester picked up his first of the season.
Â
Hill's four RBI day at the plate tied him for the team lead in RBIs with Empkey and Johnson with 14.
