No. 25 Oklahoma Christian dominates game one, splits doubleheader

Oklahoma City, Okla. - No. 25 Oklahoma Christian returned to Dobson Field for a weekend series against Angelo State after winning the midweek series against Cameron.

Game 1: No. 25 OC 7, ASU 2

Jill Dickson picked up her 10th win of the season, the second most in the Lone Star Conference (LSC) behind an 11-strikeout performance to open the series.

The Rambelles started the scoring with a home run in the top of the first before the Eagles offense took over.

Brooklin Bain walked, and Kristen Whitehouse singled to set up an RBI opportunity for the Aaliyah Brown, and Brown delivered with a 2 RBI single.

Brown had four RBIs in the game to increase her team-leading total to 28 on the season, which is also the second most in the LSC.

Dickson struckout the side in the top of the second, and her offense gave her three more runs in support in the bottom of the second.

Singles from Tristyn Hamilton and Hannah Pate, and a Bain fielder's choice that resulted in no outs loaded the bases for Oklahoma Christian. With the bases loaded, Whitehouse picked up an RBI on a hit by pitch, and with the bases still loaded, Brown knocked in her third and fourth RBIs. The three-run inning gave the Eagles a 5-1 lead after two innings.

Angelo State scored in the top of the third after a leadoff triple led to the runner scoring on a double play ball.

Kelsey Gammage scored on an error in the 6th inning, and Whitney Walde brought Bain home to score for an RBI and gave OC a 5-run advantage as they headed into the 7th.

Dickson closed the game in the 7th inning with three strikeouts to give the Eagles a 7-2 series-opening victory.

Game 2: ASU 4, No. 25 OC 2 (In 9 innings)

Game two featured a lot more drama, specifically on a controversial call in the 7th inning.

Angelo State once again scored in the 1st inning taking a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly, they took that lead into the second inning.

Payton Foster, who started game two, settled in and struckout the side in the second inning, and her offense got her off the hook in the bottom of the inning.

Back-to-back doubles from Boo Robinson and Chloe Woodward tied the game at 1-1, and Woodward picked up her 9th RBI of the season.

A couple of singles and a groundout that advanced the runners to 2nd and 3rd, led to an RBI single to give the Rambelles a 2-1 lead. OC stopped the rally though as Kylie Janzen cut another runner trying to score down at the plate to end the inning.

The game turned into a defensive duel until the bottom of the 7th inning when OC had to rally.

Hamilton led off the bottom of the 7th to jumpstart the potential rally for the Eagles, and that's when the controversial call came about. With no outs, Woodward laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt down the line, and the catcher threw the ball into right field allowing Hamilton to score. However, the home plate ump ruled that the ball was foul as it sat on the line, and Woodward ended up fouling out.

A groundout allowed Hamilton to advance to third but put OC in a tense situation with the two outs. And with two-outs, freshman Kadence Brewster pinch hit, and came through with an RBI double to tie the game at two all.

The inning ended on another close call that resulted in Bain being out at first base on a close call.

The Eagles had a chance in the top of the 8th, putting a runner in scoring position, but couldn't bring her home to take the lead. And in the top of the ninth, Angelo State scored two runs to take a 4-2 lead that would go on to be the difference.
