Oklahoma Christian takes down Patriots on Opening Day

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma - The Eagles opened the season, and Lone Star Conference play with the first game of a four-game series against UT Tyler.

The Patriots struck first by taking an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second, but that didn't last long, as Jaren Hill got the Eagles on the board with a solo shot to right-center to cut the lead in half.

UT Tyler returned the favor in the top of the 3rd, scoring an unearned run to take a 3-1 advantage. In the bottom of the 4th, Preston King had a sac-fly RBI, and Blake Empkey ripped an RBI double to left-center to tie the game at 3.

Tyler would take its final lead in the top of the 5th with a sac-fly giving them a 4-3 advantage. The lead lasted until Jaren Hill had an RBI double in the 5th, scoring Marcus Johnson, a transfer from UT Permian Basin. And Johnson gave the Eagles the lead in the 6th with an RBI single, scoring Empkey.

In the 7th inning, the Eagles poured it on, plating four runs, OC scored two of the runs on a Preston King home run, another on another Marcus Johnson RBI single, and Justin Spencer scored on a throwing error.

A solo shot to left center was the only offense the Patriots had left, and the Eagles took the 9-6 win on opening day.

Isaiah Alvarenga was the winning pitcher for the Eagles in his first relief appearance in an Oklahoma Christian Uniform.
