Eagles outscore Mustangs 22-7 to sweep doubleheader

Silver City, N.M. - The Eagles opened Lone Star Conference play with an offensive showcase featuring seven extra-base hits, including a game-winning home run.

Game 1 - OC 6, WNMU 3

Western New Mexico took a 2-0 lead on a two-run home run in the bottom of the second and stretched the lead to 3-0 with a solo shot in the bottom of the 5th inning. The Eagles put together five hits over those five innings, including two doubles, but didn't bring any runs across the plate.

That was until Kylie Janzen got things started on the scoreboard for the Eagles with a two-run home run. The home run scored Whitney Walde, who reached base on a WNMU error. In the bottom of the 6th, the freshman from Edmond, Jill Dickson, struck out the side bringing OC up to bat in the top of the 7th.

And in the top of the 7th, another freshman came through. Tristyn Hamilton reached first base on a one-out infield single. Kelsey Gammage grounded out, advancing Hamilton, but that part wouldn't matter. With two outs and the game on the line, Marissa Powell, a freshman from Aledo, Texas, stepped up and hit a go-ahead bomb to left center.

A single from Whitney Walde and a double from Kylie Janzen brought Aaliyah Brown up with runners on 2nd and 3rd. And Brown delivered with a 2-out, 2 RBI double, giving OC a 6-3 lead going into the bottom of the 7th.

In the bottom half, Dickson got a pop-up, ground out, and a line out to end the game and secure her second win of the season. Dickson didn't get the start but struck out nine Mustangs over 4.2 innings and only allowed one run on one hit.

Game 2 - OC 16, WNMU 4

The second game left no drama as Oklahoma Christian scored sixteen runs on sixteen hits.

The Eagles posted a 5-run first inning to open the game. Hannah Pate and Whitney Walde led the inning with singles, and Kylie Janzen walked to load the bases. Aaliyah Brown started the scoring with an RBI single, and Kristen Whitehouse kept it going with a 2 RBI double. Kadence Brewster and Chloe Woodward ended the inning with back-to-back sac fly RBIs to give OC the 5-0 lead.

In the top of the second inning, the Eagles scored three more runs. This time Janzen scored Pate on an RBI single, and Brown hit a 2-run home run to center field to give OC an 8-0 lead.

Western New Mexico got on the board in the bottom of the 2nd with a solo shot.

Oklahoma Christian posted another three-spot in the top of the third. Brewster singled, Woodward doubled, and Marissa Powell brought them both home with a 2 RBI single. The third run came on a double play that brought home Tristyn Hamilton, giving OC an 11-1 lead.

A two-run home run gave cut OC's lead to 11-3 in the bottom of the third, but that wouldn't last long.

The top of the fourth saw another five-run inning for the Eagles, which started with a Kristen Whitehouse Single and a Brewster double. Another sac fly RBI from Woodward started the scoring, and Hamilton followed that with an RBI double. Walde got an RBI on a walk that brought home Hamilton, and Janzen finished the scoring with a 2 RBI single.

The Eagles went on to win in 5 innings on a run rule with the final score of 16-4.

Karysyn Iltis got the win, her second of the season, and Kadence Brewster struck out three Mustangs in two innings of work.
