Oklahoma Christian blows by Western New Mexico, led by Dickson with 15 strikeouts

Silver City, N.M. - Oklahoma Christian scored seven more runs today to complete the sweep of Western New Mexico in the opening series of Lone Star Conference play.

The Eagles opened the game by scoring two runs on a 2-run bomb from Aaliyah Brown, her second home run of the season. The home run brought home Whitney Walde who reached on an infield single and stole second before being brought home.

Jill Dickson picked up two of her 15 strikeouts in the bottom of the first by catching two Mustangs looking.

The Mustangs did tie things up in the bottom of the second on a 2-run home run, but
Dickson picked up two more strikeouts to end the Mustangs' rally.

Kelsey Gammage led off the fifth inning with a single, stole second, and regained the lead for the Eagles shortly after scoring on a throwing error to give OC a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth. And Hannah Pate singled, advanced to second on a sac bunt from Walde, and scored on a Kylie Janzen sac fly RBI, giving OC a 4-2 lead.

Marissa Powell added two more runs for OC in the top of the 6th on a 2 RBI single that scored Chloe Woodward and Tristyn Hamilton, bringing OC's lead to four runs after six innings.

In the top of the 7th, Kristen Whitehouse brought home the Eagles' final run with a sac fly RBI that scored Kylie Janzen, who reached base with a double to left center.

Dickson's 15 strikeouts are the second most in program history and most by an Eagle in the DII era. She now trails only Leah Carrell, who struck out 20 batters in a game back in 2001. Dickson picked up two wins over the weekend, with a total of 24 strikeouts, and she got her second complete game of the season.

THOUGHTS FROM COACH RODRIGUEZ

It's always great to go on the road and come back with a series sweep. Our entire roster got to see the field at some point during our three-game series with some huge pinch hits and great offensive execution. I'm proud of how our team competed, battled back, and never let up this weekend. Our freshman stepped up this series, which is very encouraging during their first LSC outing! We are ready to play at home!
