Eagles Start Strong at ASU Before Falling to the Defending Conference Champions

SAN ANGELO, Texas - Women's basketball (2-6, 1-3) played its second road matchup of the week this afternoon when they took on Angelo State (7-4, 3-1). 

First Quarter

The Eagles started the game strong, taking the lead at the end of the first ten minutes. The guard play of Asiyha Smith and Daijah Torns led the way for the Eagles. 

Second Quarter

A strong defensive quarter from the Belles led to them taking an eight-point lead into the half. The Eagles were held to twelve points on 3-10 shooting from the field. 

Third Quarter

The Eagles came out in the third, looking to climb their way back into the game. Led by the play of Brooklin Bain and Keira Neal, the Eagles found ways to score as they tried to stop the high-powered offense for the Belles.

Fourth Quarter

With the great play from Bain and Taylor Jackson in the last ten minutes, the Eagles found the momentum they had in the first quarter. OC ended the game outscoring ASU in the final frame but fell short of the comeback, falling 81-69. 

Notes

  • Brooklin Bain finished as the leading scorer for the Eagles with 14 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and a block to her line. 

  • With Taylor Jackson's big 4th quarter finish, she ended her game with 13 points and made some plays on the defensive end. 

  • Keira Neal and Asiyha Smith both dropped 9 points in the game. Neal also finished with 7 rebounds, 2 assists, a block, and a steal. 

  • Kate Bradley continues to be a playmaker and finds ways for her teammates to score, finishing the game with 5 points, 4 boards, 4 assists, and a steal. 

  • Ahniya Melton and Daijah Torns made big impacts in the game. Melton finished with 3 points, 5 rebounds, and a steal. Torns finished with 8 points and 5 boards.

The Eagles will have ten days to prepare for the final 2023 matchup, a home game against Arkansas Fort Smith on the 19th at 5:30 p.m.
