Jackson and Bain Lead Eagles to Come Back Against Lions, Before Eventually Falling Short in 2023 Finale

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla- Oklahoma Christian (2-7, LSC 1-4) hosted University of Arkansas Fort Smith (4-7, LSC 2-3) in the final game of 2023. 

FIRST QUARTER 

The game started with a quick three from guard Kate Bradley before the Eagles began to struggle to score, and the Lions got started with hot shooting from three. 

UAFS would soon grab a double-digit lead going into the second quarter. 

SECOND QUARTER 

The Eagles shook off the first-quarter struggles to outscore the Lions 18-13 in the second quarter. The Eagles were led by the rebounding and scoring of guard Brooklin Bain and forward Taylor Jackson, who combined in the first half for fourteen points and nine rebounds. 

The Eagles went into halftime down by eight, but the momentum swung their way in the second quarter. 

THIRD QUARTER

The third quarter was a back-and-forth battle between the two teams. The Eagles would outscore the Lions in the third quarter, led by the guard play of Bain and Asiyha Smith. The Eagles found themselves still down to start the third quarter but were cutting more and more into the lead.

FOURTH QUARTER 

The Eagles battled to the end, eventually grabbing the lead late in the fourth quarter for a short time before losing it again to the Lions' clutch late-game free throws. 

The Eagles were led in the fourth quarter by Jackson, who hit some big shots late to keep the Eagles in the game.

NOTES

  • Ahniya Melton finished the game with 6 points and worked hard in the paint, grabbing 7 boards.

  • Brooklin Bain recorded another double-double to finish 2023, recording 16 points and 11 rebounds.

  • Taylor Jackson had a huge game off the bench with 17 points, 4 boards, and 3 steals. 

  • Asiyha Smith finished with 9 points, 3 rebounds, and 6 assists.

  • Kate Bradley hit a few huge buckets in the game and finished with 8 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and a steal. 

  • Daijah Torns found herself in foul trouble early but fought back and finished the game with 4 points, 4 rebounds, and a steal.

  • Jordan Francisco finished with 2 points and 2 rebounds and played some good minutes on defense. 

UP NEXT 

The Eagles will be off from games until January 4th, when they travel to play the University of Texas at Tyler to open up play in the New Year.
