Eagles Fall Short in a Hard-Fought Battle With the Falcons

ODESSA, Texas - Oklahoma Christian (2-5, LSC 1-2) had their first conference road game against University Texas at Permian Basin (6-2, LSC 2-1) on Thursday evening. 

FIRST QUARTER 

The first quarter was an evenly matched battle as the Eagles and the Falcons traded punches back and forth. OC saw production from forward Ahniya Melton and guards Asiyha Smith, Brooklin Bain, and Keira Neal

SECOND QUARTER 

The Eagles came out in the second quarter and played absolute lockdown defense, only allowing the Falcons to score seven points. Melton led the way for the Eagles with five points in the quarter. 

AT THE HALF 

  • The Eagles went into the locker room with a 26-22 lead. 

  • OC went 6-6 from the foul line. 

  • The Eagles out-rebounded the Falcons 17-13. 

THIRD QUARTER 

The Falcons would come out in the third quarter and work to grab the lead back from the Eagles. The play from Smith and Bain kept OC in the game and a chance to make a comeback in the fourth quarter. 

FOURTH QUARTER 

OC fought hard late to bring the game within one possession multiple times, but UTPB finished the game with a great shooting performance, going 7-10 from the field and hitting two late-game three-pointers to put OC away with just over two minutes left. 

NOTES 

  • Asiyha Smith led the Eagles with 15 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists. This is her 4th game in a row scoring in double figures. 

  • Brooklin Bain continues her great season with 12 points, 5 rebounds and a block. 

  • Kate Bradley went for 8 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 assists. 

  • Ahniya Melton finished with 7 points, 3 rebounds, and a block. 

  • Daijah Torns rounded out the starters with 6 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assists, and 2 steals.

  • Coming off the bench, Keira Neal gave the Eagles good minutes with 6 points and 4 boards. Also, coming off the bench, Nakia Cullom and Taylor Jackson combined for 7 points.

UP NEXT 

The Eagles will continue to their second game on this road trip to take on the defending Lone Star Conference Tournament Champion, Angelo State. They will play Saturday, December 9th, starting at 1 p.m.
