Eagles and No. 11 Buffs Go Wire-To-Wire Before Buffs Hold On Late

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla- Men's basketball (2-5, 0-2) wrapped up a four-game homestand against #11 West Texas A&M (6-1, 2-0) on Saturday, December 2nd in the Nest.

FIRST HALF
The Eagles got on the board first with a Karlyn Kenner three as OC continued on its improved three-point shooting (55.6% from three in the half). The Buffs responded with back-to-back buckets in a tightly contested first half that saw 18 lead changes.

Miles Gibson played a key role as he recorded the first start of his collegiate career–making some crucial stops on defense and tacking on five quick points out of the gate.

Leading the Eagles in scoring and shouldering most of the offensive load was Tyrus Baynham, who put on a show off the bench. He finished the half with twelve points, helping OC control the lead 40-38.

SECOND HALF
West Texas came out of the half firing as they hit their first two threes to regain momentum. Shooting from both teams cooled off for the rest of the second half, leading to a physical contest in the paint.

The Eagles gained some momentum and took the lead after back-to-back threes with twelve minutes to go from Hunter Staten, who had a solid game with ten points, three rebounds, and a block, giving them the lead back momentarily.

OC stayed neck and neck with the Buffs the entire half but came up short, thanks to WT's timely free throw shooting.

NOTES
  • Tyrus Baynham recorded a season-high 16 points off the bench for the Eagles, shooting 60% from the field and 66.7% from the three.
  • Hunter Staten also had a strong showing off the bench, recording 10 points in 10 minutes; he shot 75% from the field and was perfect from three-point land.
  • OC shot the three at a high clip, making 10-22 and shooting 45.5%.
