Lady Eagles Finish Second At the Newman Classic

WICHITA, Kan. - Oklahoma Christian (1-1, LSC 0-0) took on East Central (2-0, GAC 0-0) in the championship game at the Newman Classic. The Eagles held the early lead, but the Tigers were able to push past OC for the win. 

First Quarter - OC 18 - ECU 11

The Eagles jumped out to the early lead due to the play of forward Jordan Francisco and forward Ahniya Melton. Francisco played a complete first quarter as she scored 5 points for the Eagles, as well as getting 3 rebounds, 1 assists, and 2 steals. Melton added 4 points to the Eagles total. 

Second Quarter - OC 27- ECU 23

The Tigers made a charge to catch up to the Eagles in the 2nd quarter, outscoring the Eagles 12-9 to go into the half. Guard Brooklin Bain kept the Eagles moving through the quarter, scoring 4 points and grabbing 4 rebounds. 

Third Quarter- OC 40 - ECU 35 

The third quarter was a battle between the two teams. The Eagles were led by Bain and guard Kate Bradley. Bain made her presence known down low as she grabbed 6 rebounds and added 3 points to her total. Bradley dropped 8 points in the third quarter to help the Eagles hold the lead into the fourth quarter. 

Fourth Quarter - OC 53 - ECU 59 

The Tigers outscored the Eagles by 11 in the fourth quarter to sneak past OC for the win. Bain did her best to keep the Eagles in the game, scoring 7 points. The Eagles had chances to close out the score, but OC was unable to find the bottom of the net. 

Notes

  • Brooklin Bain continued her great play with another double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. 

  • Kate Bradley was the second-leading scorer for the Eagles with 8 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. 

  • Asiyha Smith gave the Eagles great minutes scoring 7, grabbing 3 boards, 3 assists, and 2 blocks.

  • Jordan Francisco gave a gritty performance with 7 points, 2 steals, and 8 rebounds. 

  • The Eagles also saw a great game from Ahniya Melton, who gave OC 6 points and 5 rebounds. 

Up Next

The girls will play two games before the Thanksgiving break in the UCO Thanksgiving Tournament. The Eagles will first play Southeastern Oklahoma State on Tuesday, November 21st at 2 p.m. The Eagles will then play the University of Central Oklahoma on Wednesday, November 22nd, at 1 p.m. before opening conference play.
