Eagles battle in a tale of two halves in Kingsville

Kingsville, Texas - Oklahoma Christian (7-8, 3-6) took their three-game winning streak to Kingsville to take on Texas A&M Kingsville (11-5, 5-3).

The Eagles' offense was firing on all cylinders in the first half, led by Antonio Gordon, who was halfway to a triple-double in the first half with 9 points, 7 assists, and 6 rebounds. Jovan Savic also continued his strong play, leading the Eagles in points in the half with 10.

The Eagles and Javelinas traded shots the entire half. The half featured nine ties and nine lead changes as the two teams shot 65% and 50%, respectively. TA&MUK's largest lead of the half took place with 14:02 remaining on the back of an 8-0 run, and OC's largest lead came with 1:54 remaining, as they took a 4-point lead off a 6-0 run.

After OC took a three-point lead with 7 seconds left, Kingsville hit a three at the buzzer to end the half in a 45-45 tie. To go with Gordon and Savic's contributions, Karyln Kenner (3-4 3P) and Drew Tennial each added 9 points in the half for OC.

Kingsville opened the second half on a tear and took a lead of 75-57 with 6:33 remaining, but the Eagles didn't back down. Moun'Tae Edmundson, who had just two points in the first half, scored 10 in a row for the Eagles on a 10-2 run to cut the lead to 77-67 with 1:21 left to play. A Karlyn Kenner three cut the lead to 7 with 35 seconds remaining, but Kingsville sealed the 81-72 win at the free throw line.

THOUGHTS FROM COACH TALLEY

"Tough game for us. We started well and just couldn't adjust defensively. I'll take credit for this one. Must give credit to a well-coached Kingsville team, but I could have done a better job coaching tonight. Our guys competed and gave it all they had. We are trending in the right direction. We are looking forward to being back home in front of our home crowd next week."
