Stoeckel, Brictson named as Ms., Mr. Eagle for 2021-22

OKLAHOMA CITY (June 19, 2022) – A stalwart during Oklahoma Christian's rise as a NCAA Division II softball power and a veteran golfer who led his team to the national-championship match in his final season received OC's highest athletic honor on Sunday.

Lindsey Stoeckel and Andres Brictson were named as Ms. And Mr. Eagle for the 2021-22 academic year. Head coaches and athletic department administrators and trainers voted on the awards, which are presented annually to the female and male senior student-athletes who best combine success in their sport with representing the ideals of OC.

Stoeckel, from Moore, has starred for the Eagles in many roles in her four years at OC after transferring from Oklahoma State before the 2019 season. She's played wherever her team has needed her – in the outfield, at first or third base and in the pitching circle – providing stability and leadership during a period in which the Eagles have made the program's first three trips to the Division II tournament.

During her OC career, she hit .294 with 12 home runs and 77 RBIs and went 26-5 in the circle with two saves, a 2.10 ERA and 131 strikeouts in 183 1/3 innings pitched. The Eagles posted a 138-45 mark during her time with the program, including a 39-15 record this season.

She received All-Heartland Conference second-team honors in 2019 and All-Lone Star Conference third-team honors in 2021. Her 11-1 record in 2022 set an OC record for best single-season winning percentage by a pitcher at .917 and her career winning percentage of .839 also is tops in program history.

She will serve in 2022-23 as a graduate assistant for the OC softball program.

Stoeckel is only the third softball player ever to be named as Ms. Eagle, joining Davee Croy (2012) and Kendra Pierce (2015).

"What a fitting honor for Lindsey to receive this year," OC softball coach Shalee Rodriguez said. "Lindsey is a perfect example of the type of players and the character we want them to exemplify in our program. She was a great role model to all of the players around her, as she never wavered through the ups and downs of her career. She came ready to work daily, had a lot of fun doing it and showed what it takes to be a student-athlete at a high level. Lindsey had a great career here and we are super excited she is staying in our program to lead by example as a graduate assistant."

Brictson, from Merida, Mexico, capped his fifth and final season at OC with selection to the prestigious Academic All-America team by the College Sports Information Directors of America. A third-team At-Large selection, Brictson became only the second OC golfer ever to receive an Academic All-America honor. He was a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree.

He played a key role in the Eagles' deep postseason run, helping the Eagles post a runner-up finish last month in the NCAA Division II Championship at TPC Michigan in Detroit. He was the only OC player to win all three of his matches during the match-play portion of the event.

A Division II All-America honorable mention selection in 2020, Brictson won five individual tournament titles for the Eagles, including the 2019 Heartland Conference title. In 2019, he also qualified for the prestigious U.S. Amateur Championship.

He's a two-time All-South Central Region honoree and a four-time all-conference player, earning first-team recognition from the Heartland in 2019 and the Lone Star Conference in 2020 and 2021 (helping OC win the LSC title the latter year) before receiving honorable mention on the All-LSC list this season. Between the Heartland and LSC, Brictson is a three-time player-of-the-week selection.

LSC athletic communications professionals have selected Brictson for the league's All-Academic team the past three seasons and he's a two-time Golf Coaches Association of America All-America Scholar. Brictson also has made the LSC or Heartland academic Honor Roll eight times and is a three-time recipient of the Division II Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award.

Brictson is the third golfer to be named as Mr. Eagle, following Oscar Stark (2011) and Brictson's former teammate, Trevor Norby (2021).

"It's very satisfying to see our coaches and staff recognize Andres Brictson as Mr. Eagle for 2021-22," said David Lynn, OC's athletic director and men's golf coach. "Andres has been an outstanding representative of Oklahoma Christian golf and athletics on the course and in the classroom. Andres was also very supportive of our other athletes and athletic programs, carving out significant friendships at OC along the way. I believe this is an exceptional way to bookend a very impressive athletic and academic career at OC for Andres."
