OKLAHOMA CITY (May 22, 2022) – Finishing his collegiate golf career by leading his team to a national runner-up finish earned Oklahoma Christian's
Andres Brictson recognition Sunday as the Eagle of the Week.
The senior from Merida, Mexico, shined on the big stage for the Eagles, who made a spirited run into the title match in the NCAA Division II Championship at TPC Michigan in Detroit, which ended Friday. During stroke play, he contributed rounds of 76 on Monday, 73 on Tuesday and 74 on Wednesday to finish 18th in the 108-man field at 223 (7-over-par).
His strong performances helped OC finish fourth among 20 teams during stroke play and advance into match play, which determined the team title.
He was the only OC player to win all three of his matches, beating Reilly Ahearn of Missouri-St. Louis 74-75, Thomas Henson of Central Missouri 72-73 and Dalton Chuba of Lee (Tenn.) 73-75, rallying from a two-shot deficit in the latter match. OC beat UMSL 4-0-1 and Central Missouri 3-1-1 before falling 4-1 to Lee in the title match.
During the week, Brictson also was named to the Academic All-District At-Large team by the College Sports Information Directors of America, putting him on the ballot for the prestigious Academic All-America honor.
Brictson finished his season with a scoring average of 73.72 over 39 rounds, tying the program record for most rounds played in a season, and he set OC career records with 141 rounds played and 393 birdies. Ten of those birdies came in the Division II Championship, allowing Brictson to pass OC Athletic Hall of Famer Bruno Buccolo, who held the former record for birdies with 388 from 2005-08.
Brictson's five career tournament wins are tied for fourth-most in program history and his career scoring average of 73.44 ranks 11th.
The Eagle of the Week award recognizes the top performer in OC athletics for the previous week. The honor is presented each week at least one OC athletic team is in competition.
