AUSTIN, Texas (May 19, 2022) – For the second time in his storied Oklahoma Christian golf career, the Eagles'
Andres Brictson appeared on the Academic All-District At-Large honor list, which was announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
The CoSIDA honor recognizes student-athletes for their combined athletic and academic prowess and is considered one of the most prestigious in collegiate athletics. To qualify for the honor, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.3 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale, have reached sophomore status athletically, have legitimate athletic credentials and have been at the nominating institution at least one calendar year.
The Academic All-District awards are divided into eight geographic districts and four divisions. OC student-athletes compete for awards against their counterparts from other Division II schools. District 6 includes universities that are members of the Rocky Mountain Athletic and Lone Star Conferences – a total of 35 schools. Athletic communications professionals from those universities vote for the Academic All-District team. OC competes in the LSC in all sports except men's and women's swimming, in which the university competes in the RMAC.
Sports that fall under the "At-Large" umbrella for CoSIDA award purposes are beach volleyball, bowling, lacrosse, rifle, crew, skiing, fencing, swimming, field hockey, tennis, golf, gymnastics, water polo and ice hockey. Individual universities are allowed no more than four nominees for the At-Large category, making it exceptionally competitive.
Brictson joined OC swimmer Zac Hawes on this year's Academic All-District list.
Brictson, a senior from Merida, Mexico, has compiled a slew of awards during his five seasons at OC, including a spot on the Academic All-District At-Large list for the 2019-20 academic year. A NCAA Division II All-America honorable mention selection in 2020, Brictson has won five individual tournament titles for the Eagles, including the 2019 Heartland Conference title. In 2019, he also qualified for the prestigious U.S. Amateur Championship.
He's a two-time All-South Central Region honoree and a four-time all-conference player, earning first-team recognition from the Heartland in 2019 and the Lone Star in 2020 and 2021 before receiving honorable mention on the All-LSC list this season. Between the Heartland and LSC, Brictson is a three-time player-of-the-week selection.
Brictson also has played a key role in the Eagles' deep postseason run, in which they've advanced into the semifinals in the match-play portion of the NCAA Division II Championship at TPC Michigan in Detroit.
Academically, he posted a 3.605 GPA while earning his bachelor's degree in Finance and has a 3.90 GPA while working on a master's degree at OC. LSC athletic communications professionals have selected Brictson for the league's All-Academic team the past three seasons and he's a two-time Golf Coaches Association of America All-America Scholar.
Brictson also has made the LSC or Heartland academic Honor Roll eight times and is a three-time recipient of the Division II Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award.
He's the fourth student-athlete in OC men's golf history to receive Academic All-District honors in multiple years, joining Diego Fernandez (2002, 2003), Bruno Buccolo (2006, 2007, 2008) and Rhein Gibson (2007, 2008). Buccolo went on to earn Academic All-America second-team honors in 2008.
Brictson will move onto the Academic All-America ballot, along with about 80 other student-athletes from each of Division II's eight regions. That list, which will be voted on by academic communications professionals from around the nation, should be announced sometime in late June.
