NORMAN, Okla. (April 22, 2022) – An impressive showing in one of the toughest tournaments this season in NCAA Division II lifted Oklahoma Christian two spots to No. 6 in the latest
Bushnell Golfweek NCAA Division II Coaches Poll, released Friday.
The No. 6 ranking matches the highest achieved by the program in its Division II era, which began with the 2012-13 season. The Eagles reached No. 6 in two polls during the 2019-20 season and two polls this past fall.
Since the most recent poll before Friday – issued on April 1 – the Eagles finished third in the Argonaut Invitational in Pensacola, Fla. Of the 17 teams in that tournament, 11 were ranked in the top 25 and three others were receiving votes in the coaches' poll.
OC also reached the match-play semifinals of the Lone Star Conference Championship tournament earlier this week in Glen Rose, Texas, before falling to eventual champion Midwestern State (Texas).
OC has finished no lower than fourth in any of its tournaments this season and has a 104-11-1 head-to-head record against Division II.
Barry (Fla.) received 15 of a possible 18 first-place votes and topped the poll with 446 points. Arkansas Tech was second with two first-place votes and 422 points. Lee (Tenn.) was third with one first-place vote and 415 points, followed by Carson-Newman (Tenn.) with 395 points, Lincoln Memorial (Tenn.) with 371 points, OC with 313 points, South Carolina-Aiken with 312 points, North Georgia with 308 points, West Florida with 258 points and Limestone (S.C.) with 256 points.
Midwestern State, which dropped two spots to No. 17, was the only other LSC team in the top 25. The only other Oklahoma Division II team in the poll was Rogers State at No. 12.
OC will play May 5-7 in the Division II South Central-West Super Regional at Pueblo Country Club in Pueblo, Colo. The Eagles won the regional preview tournament on that course last October.
