KINGSVILLE, Texas (March 6, 2022) – Oklahoma Christian closed out a frustrating weekend in south Texas on Sunday, dropping an 8-1 decision at Texas A&M-Kingsville at Nolan Ryan Field.
The win gave TAMUK (14-4, 12-4 Lone Star Conference) a sweep of its four-game league series against OC (6-14, 6-14). TAMUK starter Brandom Symmank (2-1) struck out nine batters and combined with two relievers combined to limit the Eagles to three hits.
OC's only run came on a solo home run by
Michael DiFiore in the seventh inning. It was DiFiore's second homer of the series and third of the season, giving him 28 for his career. The sophomore from Lucas, Texas, is now tied with Jordan Price (who played from 2008-11) for third place on OC's career list.
The Javelinas scored four runs in the second inning off OC starter
Sam Webb (0-2), two of them scoring on a double by leadoff hitter Garrett Thompson. Kyler Bumstead's two-run homer keyed a three-run fourth inning for TAMUK, making it 7-0.
OC reliever
Jacob Mattox allowed the Javelinas only two hits in three shutout innings to close the game.
The Eagles next will host St. Edward's (Texas) in a four-game LSC series that will begin on Friday.
