OKLAHOMA CITY (March 12, 2022) – Oklahoma Christian had 10 hits on Friday against St. Edward's (Texas), a total that would win many baseball games. But the Eagles had trouble stringing those hits together and the result was a 6-1 loss to the Hilltoppers at Dobson Field.
OC (6-15, 6-15 Lone Star Conference) had two hits in an inning three times, but the Eagles' lone run scored on a solo home run by
Tanner White in the sixth inning, after St. Edward's (15-6, 15-6) already had built a six-run lead.
St. Edward's pitcher Wesley Gafford (5-1) pitched all nine innings despite surrendering the 10 hits, recording seven strikeouts and notably walking no one, helping keep himself in the game. OC starter
Isaiah Alvarenga (2-3) struck out eight in six innings of work before
Kyle Higgins pitched three innings of shutout relief.
Stacey Bailey delivered the big offensive blow for the Hilltoppers, a three-run homer over the left-field wall in the third inning.
The teams will play a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Sunday – both seven-inning games – before ending the series Monday with another nine-inning contest.
