OKLAHOMA CITY (March 13, 2022) – Freshman
Will Rodman pitched a five-hit shutout to lead Oklahoma Christian to a 5-0 win over St. Edward's (Texas) in the first game of a baseball doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Dobson Field.
St. Edward's earned a split by beating the Eagles 13-4 in the second game. OC (7-16, 7-16 Lone Star Conference) will try to earn a split of its four-game series against the Hilltoppers in a single nine-inning game on Monday at 1 p.m.
Rodman (2-3) was masterful against St. Edward's (16-7, 16-7), allowing only one baserunner to advance as far as third base. He struck out seven Hilltoppers and walked only two.
The Eagles also managed only five hits against St. Edward's starter Luke Short (3-1), but two of them went for extra bases during a five-run fourth inning.
Jake LaMar's double to left field put the Eagles ahead 2-0 and
Grant Lake delivered a bases-loaded triple to center field to make it 5-0.
Conner Jackson added an insurance run for OC with a run-scoring single in the sixth inning.
The second game was tied 3-3 after the first inning, but the Hilltoppers went ahead 4-3 in the second and 6-3 in the third. LaMar, who had a two-run single in the first inning, added a leadoff home run in the fourth, but that proved to be the extent of the Eagles' offense.
OC eventually cycled through six pitchers, with starter
Sam Webb (0-3) taking the loss. St. Edward's reliever Eric Worden (3-0) pitched 5 1/3 innings to earn the win. Chase Cos went 4 for 5 with a home run and four RBIs for the Hilltoppers.
