KINGSVILLE, Texas (March 13, 2022) –
Kylie Janzen had four hits and drove in four runs for Oklahoma Christian as the Eagles earned a tough doubleheader split on Sunday against No. 9-ranked Texas A&M-Kingsville.
TAMUK won the first game at Hubert Field 4-2, but the Eagles responded with an offensive outburst, rolling up 16 hits while blasting the Javelinas 11-5 in the second game.
OC (15-8, 4-4 Lone Star Conference) picked up its fourth win of the season against a ranked opponent in seven chances. The home-field loss was the first this season for TAMUK (22-3, 6-2).
RBI singles by
Whitney Walde and Janzen put OC up 2-0 in the top of the fourth inning in the opener, but the Eagles didn't advance a runner past second base the rest of the game. Aaliyah Ortiz hit a solo homer for TAMUK in the bottom of the inning off OC starter
Kali Crandall (7-6) and Jory Cervantes' RBI double keyed the Javelinas' three-run outburst in the fifth.
TAMUK starter Lizette Del Angel (4-1) earned the pitching win, allowing OC five hits in five innings of work.
In the second game, Janzen's two-run triple to right-center field keyed a three-run top of the first inning for the Eagles against TAMUK starter Beth Montes (7-1). Montes entered the game with one of the top three ERAs in the conference, but gave up five runs (all earned) and seven hits to OC in just 1 2/3 innings.
Tristyn Hamilton smacked an RBI triple and scored as the Eagles extended their lead to 5-2 in the top of the second. OC tacked on four more runs in the third inning, two scoring on a pinch-hit single by
Aaliyah Brown.
Hannah Pate (who also tripled),
Brooklin Bain and Janzen each had three hits for OC while
Chloe Woodward and Hamilton added two each.

Grace Anderson (6-2) threw 6 1/3 innings to pick up the win.
The Eagles' next two LSC doubleheaders will be at home, against St. Edward's (Texas) on Friday and No. 25-ranked St. Mary's (Texas) next Sunday.
