OC men headed to bowling nationals for 1st time

DALLAS (March 13, 2022) – Oklahoma Christian slid a bit on the final day of the Intercollegiate Team Championship Sectional Qualifier on Sunday USA Bowl, but the Eagles held on and made program history by extending their season.

No. 15-ranked OC finished third in the 18-team event, earning one of the four qualifying spots into the ITC national event, set for April 22-23 at Stardust Bowl in Addison, Ill., outside Chicago. It is the first time the Eagles have advanced past the sectional tournament in the program's four-season history.

OC posted a team score of 12,661 in 64 Baker games played over two days, finishing behind only No. 4 Webber International (Fla.) with 12,923 and No. 1 Wichita State with 12,716. Midland (Iowa) earned the final qualifying spot, finishing fourth at 12,334.

"This is bittersweet, being headed to nationals in just our fourth season," OC coach James Hayes said. "The men worked so hard to get here and their hard work paid off. What an amazing accomplishment for these athletes. We still have work to do, though, if we want to bring home the ITC championship."

The Eagles spent almost all of Saturday atop the standings and held the lead through most of the morning block of 16 Baker games, but Wichita State led at the 48-game mark, 9,529 to 9,504, with Webber International remaining in third.

Webber International blew away the field over the final 16 games on Sunday, posting a score of 3,538, compared to 3,187 for Wichita State and 3,157 for OC.
