DALLAS (March 11, 2022) – Oklahoma Christian bowler C.J. Petrin took top honors on Friday in the Intercollegiate Singles Championship Sectional Qualifier held at USA Bowl.

With a six-game score of 1,370, Petrin topped a field of 179 bowlers seeking one of six spots out of the Dallas qualifier for the Intercollegiate Singles Championship, which will be held April 20-21 at Stardust Bowl in Addison, Ill., outside of Chicago.

Twenty-four bowlers from four sectionals qualified for the ISC. It's the second straight year in which OC has produced a qualifier, as current junior Josh Imhoff qualified in 2021, advancing to the round of 16.

Petrin, a freshman from Chattanooga, Tenn., moved into the top six – above the cut line – after his second game and steadily moved up, edging past Nick Larsen of Webber International (Fla.) with a 246 score in game five. Petrin closed with a 237 and finished 46 pins ahead of Larsen, the runner-up.

Petrin rolled games of 214, 227, 226 and 220 before his 246 and 237. He finished atop the standings in an event for a second time this season. He won the Southwest Intercollegiate Bowling Circuit II tournament title on Oct. 3, also at USA Bowl.

"What he did today is very tough to do," OC coach James Hayes said of Petrin.

Numerous other OC players competed in the sectional qualifier. Among them, the top finishers were sophomore Mike Gredler of Killeen, Texas (16th at 1,197), freshman Dalton Smith of Blanchard, Okla. (31st at 1,162), sophomore Mitchell Leonard of St. Charles, Ill. (50th at 1,134) and Imhoff, a junior from Cabot, Ark. (63rd at 1,111).

The Eagles now will turn their attention to the Intercollegiate Team Championship Sectional Qualifier, which will be held Saturday and Sunday at USA Bowl, as they see to advance to the ITC, to be held April 22-23, also at Stardust Bowl in Addison.
