Eagles remain perfect in qualifying for bowling postseason

ARLINGTON, Texas (Feb. 23, 2022) – In the program's five seasons of existence, Oklahoma Christian never has failed to qualify for the postseason in men's college club bowling – an impressive run that continued on Wednesday.

OC earned a spot in the Intercollegiate Team Championships Sectional Qualifier at USA Bowl in Dallas, set to be played March 12-13. Boasting a No. 14 national seed (among 84 entrants), the Eagles will be among the favorites to be one of the four teams that will advance to the ITC national event, set for April 20-23 at Stardust Bowl in Addison, Ill., near Chicago.

"We are excited to be headed to Dallas for sectionals," OC coach James Hayes said. "We have been building for this moment all year and we are ready to compete with some great teams for our shot at a trip to the ITC.

"The team has worked really hard, finishing with our highest power ranking ever as a program. The coaches are proud of all the athletes and their success this year, but I know I speak for them when I say we still have unfinished business to take care of. We will hit the lanes hard over the next two weeks and be ready go when we hit the road south on March 10."

The Eagles are one of 19 teams assigned to the Dallas sectional, one of four such tournaments to be held across the nation. The overall top seed, No. 1 Wichita State, will be in Dallas, along with No. 4 Webber International (Fla.), No. 16 Newman (Kan.), No. 18 Midland (Iowa), No. 19 Grand Canyon, No. 30 Kansas Wesleyan, No. 34 Fresno State, No. 35 Ottawa (Kan.) and No. 37 Iowa Western Community College.

Also competing in Dallas will be No. 53 Arizona State, No. 54 Spring Hill (Ala.), No. 57 Iowa Central Community College, No. 58 Drury (Mo.), No. 60 California-Davis, No. 65 Peru State (Neb.), No. 66 Nevada-Las Vegas, No. 74 San Jose State and No. 83 Grand View (Iowa).

The Eagles have recorded two top-10 finishes in Tier I events this season, tying for ninth in the Glenn Carlson Las Vegas Invitational in December and placing 10th this past weekend in the Hoosier Classic in Indianapolis. OC also won one Tier II event (Southwest Intercollegiate Bowling Circuit I) and finished second in two others (SWIBC II and the Jayhawk Collegiate Challenge in Lawrence, Kan.). The SWIBC events were played at USA Bowl in Dallas.

The day before the team sectional qualifier begins, March 11, the Intercollegiate Singles Championship Sectional Qualifier will be held, also at USA Bowl. The top six players from that event will advance to the national ISC event. Last season, OC had its first ISC national qualifier in Josh Imhoff.
