SAN ANGELO, Texas (Feb. 19, 2022) – Oklahoma Christian's vaunted offense, which had been missing for the Eagles during a seven-game losing streak, re-emerged in a forceful manner on Saturday in the back end of a doubleheader at No. 12-ranked Angelo State (Texas).
Angelo State jumped to an early lead in the opener and cruised to a 10-4 win, but OC pounded out 16 hits – including four home runs – to rout the Rams 15-6 in the second game at Foster Field.
OC (4-7, 4-7 Lone Star Conference) could salvage a much-needed series split against Angelo State (8-3, 8-3) with a win in the series finale at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
In Saturday's second seven-inning game, the Eagles didn't let Angelo State starter Kyle Moseley (0-1) record an out. They jumped on him and reliever Price Siemering for five runs in the first inning, an outburst highlighted by a leadoff home run by
Preston King and
Tanner White's triple. OC scored six more times off Siemering in the second inning, after which the Eagles led 11-3.
Jaren Hill homered in the second inning for OC.
Blake Empkey hit a two-run homer in the fourth and White added a two-run shot in the fifth.
OC's starting pitcher,
Isaiah Alvarenga (2-1), allowed nine hits in five innings before
Chris Huerta threw the final two innings for the Eagles.
The opener was a different story. Angelo State scored three runs in the first inning and five in the third before a belated rally by the Eagles, who scored all their runs in the final two innings. OC starter
Kyle Higgins (0-1) took the pitching loss while his counterpart for the Rams, Aaron Munson (1-0) threw five innings for the win.
