OKLAHOMA CITY (Feb. 17, 2022) – Texas-Permian Basin seized control with a 22-0 second-half run and held off a late surge by Oklahoma Christian to down OC 76-60 on Thursday night in the Eagles' Nest.
Moun'Tae Edmundson led OC (8-16, 4-9 Lone Star Conference) with 18 points and seven assists. The Eagles jumped to a 14-1 lead, led the game for more than 17 minutes and were up 42-40 after
Nyk Madison scored with 13:12 left – a basket that came after OC had recorded three offensive rebounds to extend the possession.
But for more than six minutes, the Eagles didn't score again and UTPB (15-10, 7-6) took full advantage. Miles Daniels scored 10 of his game-high 26 points during the run by the Falcons and his free throw with 7:08 left put his team ahead 62-42. UTPB extended its lead to 70-47 on a 3-pointer by Jordan Horn with 5:00 left.
OC didn't quit and made things interesting late. The Eagles scored 11 straight points and pulled within 70-58 on a 3-pointer by
Anthony Johnson with 2:16 left, leading UTPB coach Kyle Tolin to call a timeout. That seemed to settle down the Falcons and DaJuan Jones went 6 of 6 from the free-throw line in the final 1:51 to seal with win for UTPB. Jones finished with 10 points and eight assists.
Keyon Craddock hit all four of his 3-point attempts for UTPB and scored 15 points.
Nyk Madison had 16 points and seven rebounds for OC, while Johnson added 12 points.
Drew Tennial grabbed 10 rebounds to go with four points and
D.J. Walter contributed seven points and nine rebounds.
OC's home finale will be on Saturday at 4 p.m. against Angelo State (Texas) and the squad's two seniors, Johnson and
Tucker Fuller, will be recognized before the game. The Eagles will close the regular season on the road next week at Dallas Baptist (Texas) and Midwestern State (Texas).
