OKLAHOMA CITY (Feb. 13, 2022) – A day after suffering a tough loss, No. 15-ranked Oklahoma Christian posted a pair of solid bounce-back wins on Sunday on the final day of the first weekend of the Edmond Regional Festival.
Aaliyah Brown drove in five runs as the Eagles run-ruled Missouri Southern 12-4 in six innings, then
Grace Anderson provided solid pitching and timely hitting as OC downed local rival Southern Nazarene 6-3 at Tom Heath Field.
Missouri Southern (2-3) jumped on OC for three quick runs in the top of the first, but Brown tied the game with a bases-loaded double to right-center field in the bottom of the inning and the Eagles scored three more times in the second off Missouri Southern starter Kara Amos (0-1) to go up 6-3.
Brown's two-run homer highlighted a five-run fifth inning and the Eagles sealed the run rule in the bottom of the sixth when
Whitney Walde scored on a double steal, with Anderson swiping second base.
Kali Crandall (4-1) pitched five innings, allowing only two unearned runs, before
Lindsey Stoeckel blanked the Lions in the sixth.
SNU (1-8) took early leads of 1-0 and 3-1, the latter in the third inning, but Anderson (2-1) settled down to hold the Crimson Storm to only two hits over the next four innings, allowing OC time to rally against SNU starter Chelsea Vandiver (0-4).
During a three-run outburst in the bottom of the third, Anderson's fly ball to right field fell in for a triple, scoring
Chloe Woodward and Walde with the tiebreaking runs that put OC up 4-3.
Tristyn Hamilton's RBI double and a run-scoring single by
Rian Gamble extended that advantage to 6-3 in the sixth inning.
OC (7-2) has won six straight games against the Crimson Storm and now leads its all-time series against Southern Nazarene 60-20.
The Eagles will play six games at home over four days on the second weekend of the Edmond Regional Festival, starting with a matchup Thursday against Oklahoma Baptist. OC and OBU are longtime rivals – they've faced each other 80 times – but they haven't played since 2012, when both were members of the NAIA and Sooner Athletic Conference.
