INDIANAPOLIS (Feb. 11, 2022) – As it has for much of the past two years, Oklahoma Christian topped the initial version of the NCAA Division II South Central Region ranking, issued Friday by the NCAA.
Two more sets of regional rankings will be announced – on March 18 and April 15 – before the NCAA will reveal the teams selected for Division II's four super regional tournaments on April 22. Nine South Central teams will be chosen to play in the South Central-West Super Regional, scheduled for May 5-7 at Pueblo Country Club in Pueblo, Colo. OC recorded one of its three wins this season, in the South Central-West Region Preview, on that course.
Since becoming eligible for NCAA postseason events with the 2015-16 academic year, the Eagles have made the regional field four times (2016, 2018, 2019, 2021) and advanced in 2016 to the NCAA Division II Championship tournament. OC was atop the South Central Region ranking in spring 2020, when the season ended prematurely due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and topped each regional ranking last spring.
The Eagles have posted a 50-1-0 record this season against Division II competition. In addition to the Regional Preview tournament, OC won the Missouri Southern Fall Invitational in Monkey Island, Okla., and The Hrnciar in Duncan, Okla. The Eagles finished second behind defending national champion Arkansas Tech last week in the Houston Classic at The Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas.
Following OC in the regional ranking were (in order) Midwestern State (Texas), Colorado State-Pueblo, Colorado Christian, Texas A&M-Commerce, Cameron, St. Mary's (Texas), Colorado Mesa, Colorado-Colorado Springs, Westminster (Utah) and West Texas A&M.
OC will play in four more regular-season events before the Lone Star Conference Championship, set for April 18-20 at Squaw Valley Golf Club's Apache Links in Glen Rose, Texas. The Eagles won last season's LSC title.
The Eagles' next tournament will be the Las Vegas Desert Classic, scheduled for March 6-8 at The Legacy Golf Club in Las Vegas.
