Eagles rally in Baker games to take 4th at SWIBC V

DALLAS (Jan. 22, 2022) – After a challenging start in their five team games, the Oklahoma Christian Eagles rallied during their 12 Baker games to finish fourth on Saturday in the Southwest Intercollegiate Bowling Circuit V tournament at USA Bowl.

The Eagles struggled with their spare shooting and were mired in eighth place in the 14-team field. But coach James Hayes said his team "bowled really well in Baker" to help them salvage the fourth-place showing. OC's final overall score was 7,001 pins.

"We'll definitely have to regroup before tomorrow," when the Eagles play in the SWIBC VI tournament in nearby Plano, Texas, Hayes said.

OC also fielded a pair of junior-varsity teams, which finished third and fourth, respectively, among the seven JV teams. The Eagles' top JV team posted a score of 6,481, with the JV2 team posting a score of 6,150.

Newman (Kan.) won both the varsity (7,648) and junior varsity (6,780) competitions in the tournament. Silas Limes of Newman was the individual champion with a score of 1,165.

OC's top individual player on Saturday was freshman C.J. Petrin of Chattanooga, Tenn., who posted a score of 978 in his five individual games, including games of 212, 213 and 201. Nathan Curnutt, a freshman from Cocoa, Fla., took 32nd with a 940 that included a game of 208. One spot behind him was freshman Andrew Martin of Covington, Wash., at 933. He rolled games of 226 and 206.

Also rolling at least one 200 game for OC were freshman James Crenshaw of Venus, Texas; freshman K.C. Calbert of Sallisaw, Okla.; junior Jonathan Beyer of Dallas; freshman Jaylon Jackson of Shreveport, La.; and junior Leotis Johnson Jr. of Chicago, who posted the Eagles' individual high game of 227.
